Rune Factory Frontier: How do I open the gate behind Iris(Ellis)'s tower?

I'm playing Rune factory frontier for Wii. And I've been on whale Island, but there's a locked gate by Iris's house. Does anyone know what I have to do to open it? Eris says to check on it occasionally, but I'm not having much luck. Help is appreciated :)
