Cigarettes a good thing for society?

Almost every time i watch tv, i see a commercial about how evil big tobacco is. Cigarettes do kill, yes.. but so do many other things society has created.. even the things we depend on most such as cars can kill people without a person even being under the influence of something. I lost a friend to gun violence, but i don't blame guns. I blame the society who created the criminal who used the gun. So why do so many non-smokers whine about cigarettes? That's just a ping question. The real question i have is that with all the complaints about cigarettes, why does no one ponder any positive effects of cigarettes? It is science fact that overpopulation is one of the most dangerous threats to civilization. Cigarettes kill a person what, every 8 seconds i think it is? So if overpopulation is suffocating this planet to the brink, isn't big tobacco doing society a favor? Let me know what your opinion is and the most unbiased one will get the ten points. Thanks.
